Private Lessons

With fifteen years’ experience teaching private cello lessons, Rachel Icenogle’s teaching method puts a focus on realizing musicality and expression through proper playing technique. Playing for hours shouldn't be hard on your body!  Rachel works to make her students comfortable at their instruments so their musical intentions can shine. Lessons are only available via video for the time being.

Rachel holds a BFA in Cello Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and has experience in many diverse genres and styles of playing. Past teaching experience includes several schools throughout the Philadelphia area, including Play On Philly!, the Settlement Music School, the Baldwin School, the Haddonfield School of Music, Common Time Music School, and the Maplewood Music School.

Student Feedback

“Rachel is a good teacher because she explains things very carefully. She is making me a better cellist! I am very happy to have her as a teacher because she is patient with me. I learn from my mistakes and she doesn’t make me feel bad.” - Leah, 8 years old

"I came to Rachel as an adult beginner who had never touched a string instrument before.  She has always been extremely accommodating and patient with my busy schedule, and has brought me from zero to intermediate far more quickly and painlessly than I ever would have expected."  -  Neal

"It's intimidating to pick up an instrument as an adult, but Rachel has been encouraging every step of the way. In the years we've been working together, she has taught me everything I know about cello and explains it all in a way that keeps me motivated and excited to learn more. She easily breaks down the most difficult parts in each piece of music to make them more understandable and, in what seems like no time, I'm able to accomplish something that seemed impossible a week earlier.  She's a cello wizard!"  -  Adrianna
